Cupar Hearts 0-1 Greig Park Rangers
Saturday 9th February 2019.
Kingdom of Fife League.
Cupar Hearts were looking to pick themselves back up after their last 16 Scottish Cup exit last week when they turned their attention to league matters. But Cupar’s Scottish Cup hangover was true to form when they lost to a single goal against mid table outfit Greig Park Rangers at a wind swept Duffus Park.
Hearts had a chance to go ahead in the early stages when Scott McKay gathered a poor clearance and squared to Kyle Watson in front of goal who took a touch then his shot was cleared.
At the other end a corner kick fell to Colin Brown at the back post and his header was cleared only as far as Rhys French who sent a dangerous ball back in but it went out of play.
A superb Greg McColm ball set up the best chance of the game for Jakub Dobes on the half hour mark but he unbelievably dragged his shot wide.
The visitors took the lead five minutes later when Rhys Sneddon’s wind assisted cross was headed in by an unmarked Colin Brown.
Cupar started the second half in search of the equaliser and 2 goalmouth scrambles from corner kicks looked certain to find the leveller but somehow Greig Park Rangers managed to clear.
Jakub Dobes did well to chest the ball down in front of goal but he tapped wide.
With time running out Blair Woods tried a shot from distance but it went high over.
The final action saw a Sean Murdoch effort deflected into the side netting but Hearts couldn’t capitalise on the resulting corner.
