New signings shine in opening day win!

Kingdom of Fife League.

Saturday 11th August 2018.

Cupar Hearts kicked off their league campaign with a comfortable win against newly promoted Burntisland United.

Fresh faces were keen to make an impact for Cupar and they certainly did that as Lee Sibanda’s new signings got themselves on the score sheet.

Hearts dominated for large spells and visiting ‘keeper Matt Johnston pulled off several unbelievable saves to keep the score respectful.

A poor tackle in the opening stages saw Jakub Dobes replaced by Morgan Dow who went straight into the fray and tried a shot from distance that was just wide.

A Martin Woods throw in set up Scott McKay with 15 minutes played but his effort swerved wide.

Hearts opened the scoring on the half hour mark when Connor Murdoch collected Scott McKay’s throw and his quality ball in found Martin Woods who finished well.

Provider turned goalscorer 5 minutes before the break when ‘keeper Matt Johnston could only parry away Morgan Dow’s shot and Connor Murdoch was on hand to convert the rebound.

Cupar made it three 8 minutes into the second half when Connor Murdoch netted to put the game to bed.

Hearts weren’t finished yet though and a close range header by Sean Murdoch saw ‘keeper Matt Johnston pull off a superb point blank save.

A few minutes later Connor Murdoch was unlucky not to bag his hat trick when he saw his effort come off the post.

A rare attempt on goal by Burntisland saw David Laing try a shot from distance but it went high over.

In the dying minutes an Aaron Leadbetter header looked destined for the top corner but once again ‘keeper Matt Johnston pulled off the impossible and tipped the ball round the post.

And so it was a good start to the season for Hearts who picked up all three points.
