Cupar book their place in the semi-finals!

Fife Cup Quarter Final.

Cupar Hearts booked themselves into the Semi- Final of the Fife Cup last Saturday with a convincing victory over lower League side Falkland.

Hearts kept the home side pinned back in their own half in the opening quarter of an hour.

Cupar came close when Scott McKay blasted a shot off a defender and the ball fell to Kerr Brown whose shot skimmed over the top corner.
It was to no surprise when the visitors opened the scoring. A Gary Sutherland cross found Paul Laurie who had time to compose himself and fire his shot into the bottom right hand corner.

Hearts went two to the good on 30 mins when Jakub Dobes headed in a Grant Blyth corner kick.

Three minutes later Cupar netted goal number 3 when goal scorer turned provider. Jakub Dobes slipped the ball to Paul Laurie who side footed home from an angle.

Paul Laurie should have completed his hat trick just before half time when he found himself one on one with the ‘keeper but Michael Swinnerton made himself big and did well to save.

The large travelling support were hoping to see more goals added in the second half but a lack of urgency saw them lose momentum and some poor finishing ensured they had to make do with 3.

A foul by Falkland’s Andrew Moffatt on Charles Anderson saw Scott McKay send in an excellent free kick that was missed by everyone and the ‘keeper gathered.

Hearts should have made it four on 67 minutes after a good set up. A Scott McKay long throw was headed onto Gordon McKinnon by Scott McInroy who fired wide.

Then a Charles Anderson mazy run in the box saw Jakub Dobes pick up the ball and shoot off target.

A rare Falkland attack came in the form of a free kick after a foul by Sean Murdoch with 6 minutes remaining. Ex- Hearts player Darren Thomas stepped up and his effort took a slight deflection off the defensive wall and Gavin Wilson in the home sticks easily saved.

John Provan had another chance for the home side when he found his way through on goal but fired straight at ‘keeper Gavin Wilson.

Cupar had one more effort before the final whistle when a superb shot by Gary Sutherland was matched by Michael Swinnerton who got his fingertips to put the ball round the post.
