Last league game sees Hearts crowned CHAMPIONS!

Tuesday 31st May 2011.

Kingdom Caledonian League.

Cupar Hearts wrapped up the Kingdom Caledonian League with a win against visitors Lumphinnans United on Tuesday. There was nothing to play for with Hearts already securing the top spot and it showed. Ten minutes in Hearts took the lead through Duncan Campbell when he latched onto a loose ball and side-footed it into the back of the net. Then a good Kyle Watson cross was fired wide by Neale Smith. There were a few chances for the home side before the break with the best falling to Grant Fraser but his drive was wide.

Ten minutes into the second half Duncan Campbell netted his and Cupar’s second after a good Graham Makein cross. Eight minutes later Neale Smith tapped in after a low drive into the box but it was deemed offside. Stuart Nicoll entered the fray and immediately got into the thick of the action. On the 70 minute mark good work by Nicoll put through Scott Pryde on goal but his first time effort looped over the bar. Then Lumphinnans were reduced to 10 men when one of their players saw red with a second yellow for dissent. Cupar made it 3 with seconds remaining when substitute Barry Sibanda skipped past ‘keeper Barry Thomson and rolled the ball into the net. And so at the final whistle it was celebrations all round when captain Graham Makein lifted the trophy and Hearts were crowned Kingdom Caledonian League Champions for the second year in a row.
