Cupar Hearts faced Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts in a Kingdom Caledonian League match which was kindly sponsored by 2010 Distributions. Few braved the heavy showers to see Hearts pick up all three points in a game that Cupar dominated.
Scott Pryde did well to get a shot in after a good run but was unlucky to hit the side netting on 6 minutes. One minute later Iain Boylan’s chip came off the hand of Robbie Morris to earn the home side a free kick on the edge of the box. After rebounding off the wall and being sent back in the ball was eventually headed over by Scott Pryde. At the other end Greg Brechin for the Swifts had a shot easily saved by Hearts ‘keeper Gary Bowman. Then a great pass by Iain Boylan set up Graham Makein but his shot was palmed away by visiting ‘keeper Richie Kinnear. The ball then fell to Gary Reilly and he should have slotted home. Iain O’Leary was next to try his luck in front of goal but he too fired wide after an excellent through ball by Lindsay Sharp. Hearts increased pressure on the Inverkeithing goal and it paid off on 36 minutes. Scott McInroy fired in a long ball from the back which was met by Iain Boylan after it was headed on by Duncan Campbell. Iain Boylan did superbly to flick the ball over the ‘keeper and head it into the empty net to open the scoring. The same man doubled the score line soon after with a low drive from 30 yards to give Hearts a comfortable lead heading into half time.
Inverkeithing had a half chance 10 minutes into the second half but Michael Birrell put the ball wide. At the other end Iain Boylan headed wide after a cross by Gary Reilly. With 22 minutes remaining Hearts introduced substitutes Kyle Watson and Michael Reilly for Gary Reilly and Scott Pryde respectfully. It wasn’t long before Michael Reilly was in the thick of the action when he blasted over from close range with a shot on the turn. And it was the substitute that set up Hearts third and final goal. His cross was met by Tommy Halley who headed the ball past Richie Kinnear to give Hearts the win.
Cupar Hearts: Bowman, Makein, O’Leary, Anderson (C), Sharp, McInroy, G. Reilly, Halley, Campbell, Boylan and Pryde. Subs: Watson, M. Reilly, Fraser, McEwan.
