Cupar Hearts entertained Balgonie Scotia 1896 in the first of their midweek fixtures last Tuesday.

It was the Scotia that got things underway with their first effort on goal on 13 minutes when Mark Kerr volleyed an effort over the bar after a Ryan Thomson cross. Then a good lay off by Craig Johnstone set up Ryan Thomson but his shot also went high over. Neale Smith for the home side did well to fire in a long range effort on the half hour mark but it was deflected wide. Moments later Hearts had a penalty claim waived away when Gary Reilly went down in the box. It wasn’t long before Cupar took the lead. New signing Duncan Campbell shrugged off a challenge before firing the ball past Mike Eadie in the visiting goal. Two minutes later Grahame Makein doubled their lead when he blasted in from the back post. Balgonie Scotia had the last say of the half through Steven McBride but his shot was off target.

Cupar Hearts wasted no time in the second half getting things going and they were soon 3 goals to the good. Garry Reilly headed the ball forward and Duncan Campbell’s looping effort left Mike Eadie with no chance. On the hour new boy Duncan Campbell completed his hat trick on his debut after an excellent through ball by Iain Boylan. With 3 goals on the card he took his place on the sideline when fellow new signing Kyle Watson entered the fray. The visitors managed to pull one back on 73 minutes through Colin Gallacher but 3 minutes later Cupar went further ahead. Scott Pryde did well to skip past a defender to get his shot in on goal which was well saved by Mike Eadie but he could do nothing when Scott Pryde blasted the rebound into the bottom corner to conclude the scoring.
